With Community Teamwork – There Was a Good Ending
Recently while I was volunteering at CCAP/Loaves & Fishes a young woman came to me very excited. She asked if remembered her. I did have some twinge of recollection.
She shared that during the beginning of the COVID19 pandemic she was diagnosed with cancer. Even though she was recovering and planned to be back to work by the end of October, she had drained her funds and feared that soon she would have no place to live or anyway to pay her bills. She was terrified as to what might happen Per a January 2021 survey from Bankrate,” fewer than 4 in 10 Americans could pay a surprise $1,000 bill from savings.”
She reminded me that I had given her food, and also had advised her to call WV211. She contacted them and they were able to help her with her bills and CCAP/Loaves & Fishes has continued to supplement her food. She explained that everyone had been so kind and helpful. If it had not been for the agencies working together, she would never have figured out how to get help.
CCAP/Loaves & Fishes goal is to help people become independent, but it is not very often that we get to hear the ending.
